Totoro Forest Project Show Event

Is long known that development often threatens areas considered green refuges in the urban world.
The Totoro Forest Project has been developed to raised funds for
Tokyo's hilly Sayama Forest, one of those still existing few urban oasis

Sayama Forest , is a rambling landscape of cultivated forests, paddies, wetlands and grasslands and the location that inspired director Hayao Miyazaki to create his 1988 animated film "My Neighbor Totoro,"

The Totoro Forest Project organized by the awesome Pixar Artists friends Dice Tsusumi, Enrico Casarosa , Ronnie del Carmen and Yukino Pang of the Asian Art Museum (in photo2), culminated with the auction event past saturday sept 6th , raising $201,236.00!!!!!! (estimated)

The event was held at Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville and it was a blast and sold all 205 pieces of art work donated for this project. !

Over 600 artists and enthusiats attended the event , lots of familiar faces from Blue Sky, Disney, Dreamworks, Lucas films, and Sony Picture Animations etc etc , united in one spot for one event.

There was plenty of food +
Lots of great drinks like Sake and plum wines.....and.... really really fantastic art , 200 pieces from artists all over the globe !

Quite an all star line up of artists coming all the way from LA, NY, Japan, France, Canada, and England…

We organized a pre party friday mixer for the artists , wich gave us all a chance to meet before the auction frenzy . It was so much fun to put faces to the fantastic artwork seen while hanging the pieces. I had such a great time having the chance to meet and talk with such a talented bunch.

Here is a bit blurry pic of my piece before framing . I used blue pencil ( wich I always use for animation) and went for a drawing , a more familiar territory for me in analog.

There is a book for the project , including all the pieces in the show available in limited edition at their website and designed beautifully by Xin Wang .
All the pieces are going to be shown at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco from September 20th -Dec 2008

Big hug + Thank you's to all the artists and people who supported this project , for make it happen, and specially to the main organizers , for their hard continuous work :)
The Live Auction conducted by a professional auctioneer , it was quite a show!
